Where Windows meets Linux

CusDeb OS brings a Win32 userland to the Linux kernel, combining a classic Windows-like desktop with Windows app support — predictable, stable, and ad-free.

About

CusDeb OS is currently built on Debian 13, with its own CDEX desktop environment derived from ReactOS. It delivers a classic desktop experience with seamless Windows app support, backed by the reliability of the Linux kernel.

CusDeb OS goes further: it encourages a fully Win32-based userland, from the web browser to the Steam client. In that sense, it's effectively an unofficial Windows built on the Linux kernel.

Goal

CusDeb OS aims to deliver within a year a system that could offer a viable alternative to Windows 10, whose support ends on October 12, 2027. According to some reports, Microsoft has extended support for Windows 10, as users are not eager to migrate to 11, but the end of support will likely force them to do so. Thus, the goal of CusDeb OS is to provide a choice.

Status

CusDeb OS is currently in alpha. Alpha 1, based on Wine 11.19 and CDEX 0.0.13, is available for testing. The system can be booted in live mode and installed directly to a hard drive from there.

Roadmap

  1. Native 64-bit CDEX environment

Transition CDEX to a native 64-bit environment. CusDeb OS already uses 64-bit Wine, but CDEX is still built and distributed as a 32-bit application.

  2. Direct3D 3–11 support

Expand Direct3D compatibility through D7VK and DXVK, enabling a wider range of Windows games and graphics applications.

  3. Wayland support

Transition CusDeb OS from its current Xorg-based graphical environment to Wayland.
